Subject: Praising God by memorizing Scripture!
Hello dear Susan, my sister in Christ,
I just had to let you know how much I have been encouraged in my walk with the Lord since your conference at Fellowship Bible Church Chester NH last October. So many of the ladies were so fired up to start memorizing right away. It was amazing to be talking together about how to get started and where each of us wanted to start. Of course, to my knowledge there have been many that have not stuck with it which is certainly disappointing. And I was almost one of them until I figured out a way to be working at it more consistently.
I've memorized Psalm 73. I have one more day in my 30 days of repeating it myself and feel confident that it will stay with me forever. It has definitely taken me much longer than I expected and I hope that as I continue, it will get easier and faster. More commitment on my part should help as well! One of the biggest benefits to me so far is that I've proven to myself that I can do this. It's "only" 28 verses, but they are now solidly committed to memory, something I did not think was possible. I have to say that I would never have attempted to memorize more than a few verses if you had not basically told me that I could and should do much more.
I shared your admonishment with one of my closest friends who lives in Florida and she has also been starting to memorize and has found that her fears at night are greatly helped by having scripture to recite to herself. That's what I want to do next: choose something to memorize that will help me to think on who God is when I'm having trouble sleeping.
Thank you for your willingness to be used by God in this way, and to Deb also. What a blessing it is to be daughters of The King of Kings and Lord of Lords and to actually be used by Him in the building up of His kingdom. That He would choose to use me for anything good is definitely a miracle and a sign of His grace.
